Every year, the Ocean Photography Awards organize an award function and invite photographers from all around the globe to share their best clicks capturing the beauty and magnificence of under and above water ecosystems and the world gets to see some of the most beautiful breathtaking captures by the most talented photographers from around the globe.
Just like every year, there’s something extra special that happened at the award function and we would like to share it with you. This one-shot stole and touched everyone’s heart and won the Community Choice Award. The photo we are discussing here is one taken by the German photographer Tobias Baumgaertner and it is about two cute penguins comforting each other.
SO THIS IS THE SHOT WE ARE TAKING ABOUT THAT WON THE COMMUNITY CHOICE AWARD IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
This extraordinary shot by Tobias was shot in Melbourne, Australia. They say that during this time, the really lucky people are the ones who can be with someone they love the most in this world. This is the caption used by Tobias when he posted this heart warming picture on Instagram: “These two fairy penguins poised upon a rock overlooking the Melbourne skyline were standing there for hours, flipper in flipper, watching the sparkling lights of the skyline and ocean.”
So, here is the story behind this picture that’ll bring in the tears. Both of these cute little furry penguins have lost their partners and were often seen comforting each other. A volunteer approached Tobias and told him the white one was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and apparently so did the younger male to the left. Since that time, they meet often, comfort each other, and stand together for hours watching the beautiful lights of the city.
Tobias adds, he spent three full nights in the penguin colony to get this shot, and clearly, we can see it was worth it and the way that these two lovebirds were caring for one another stood out from the entire colony. While all the other penguins were sleeping or running around, those two seemed to just stand there and enjoy every second they had together, holding each other in their flippers and talking about penguin stuff.
Do let us in the comments what you think about this beautiful story! 🙂
